McNeil, McBeam Grab Wins to Open Bison Classic

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.  – Senior Marseille McBeam and junior Shamoya McNeil led the West Virginia University track team on the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic, as the duo claimed victories on Friday, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
WVU’s McBeam and McNeil collected wins in field events to set the tone for the Mountaineers on the first day of competition. West Virginia also saw strong performances in running events in the 1,500 meter run and the 5,000 meters.
In the women’s triple jump, McNeil leapt an impressive 13.01 meters, for an outdoor career-best mark and the second best in WVU history. McNeil improved .21 meters from her previous best set at this year’s Raleigh Relays. Her 13.01-meter mark is the second best in school history, just 0.18 meters from reaching former Mountaineer Stormy Nesbit’s 13.19 set in 2014.
WVU’s second win came from McBeam in the women’s high jump. She cleared a season-best mark of 1.70 meters, improving .05 meters from her then-best mark at the George Mason Spring Invitational.
Junior Amy Cashin placed 11th in the women’s 1,500-meter run invite with a time of 4:26.74, followed by redshirt freshman teammate Candace Jones in 12th with a time of 4:27.32. Senior Megan Yuan came in 43rd in 4:38.07.
In the 5,000-meter run invite, redshirt freshman Olivia Hill placed 12th with a career-best time of 16:53.16. Hill’s previous best was 17:06.44 at this year’s Raleigh Relays.
After the first day, Bucknell takes the team lead with 39 points, out of 12 women’s teams. Other top-five team finishers include, Penn State in second (27), Buffalo in third (25), Duquesne in fourth (22.33) and West Virginia in fifth (20).
The second day of the Bison Outdoor Classic picks back up on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. ET with women’s pole vault.
