MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team opens the 2017 outdoor season at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina, on March 17-18 at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.
The Mountaineers had three weeks to turn their attention to the outdoor season following the conclusion of the indoor season, as UNC Charlotte hosts the two-day event. West Virginia is one of 54 teams competing at the event.
Friday’s competition will begin with the decathlon at 9:00 a.m. ET, and will conclude on Saturday with shot put starting at 10:00 a.m. ET. Fans can follow the meet live at flashresults.com
“Getting out of this weather will be a nice break for the team,” said coach Sean Cleary. “Training has gone well over the last few weeks, and we are excited to get the season underway.”
West Virginia closed out the indoor season at the Big 12 Championship on Feb. 24-25, where seven Mountaineers combined for eight All-Big 12 accolades.
