MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team earned an NSCAA Team Academic Award for its team grade point average (GPA) for the 2011-12 academic year, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced today.

“To have earned this award now for the fifth-straight year shows the direction this program is heading,” coach Marlon LeBlanc. “We have continued to grow both on the field and off the field thanks to our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, specifically our academic counselor Stephanie White.”

The Mountaineers, who earned the award for the fifth-straight season, are one of 220 soccer teams in all divisions to have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA. WVU was one of only the Mid-American Conference teams recognized, with a 3.0 GPA.

WVU, who will have three early graduates in December, finished the season with a 9-6-2 record and a second-place finish in the MAC.

Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown and the WVU women’s soccer team also won an NSCAA Team Academic Award, making West Virginia one of 148 schools in all divisions to have men’s and women’s teams honored.
